Congratulations to MCHC’s 2015 Scholarship Recipients
Nogales High School graduates, Cheyenne Garcia and Ricardo Lira, Jr., are the winners of the 2015 Mariposa Community Health Center scholarships. The two students were selected by the MCHC Board of Directors from numerous Santa Cruz County applicants. Both Cheyenne and Ricardo will receive $2,500 for two years for a total of $5,000 each toward their education.
Cheyenne Garcia has been accepted to the University of Arizona. She is a member of FBLA, JSA, Student Council, Key Club, Honors Club, and Science Club, as well
as the NHS varsity soccer, volleyball and track teams.
Cheyenne additionally dedicates a significant amount of time to volunteering at Carondelet Holy Cross Hospital and the Humane Society. Her passion for science has led her to major in neuroscience and cognitive studies. Cheyenne aspires to use her future education and knowledge to provide assistance to the less fortunate in developing countries.
Ricardo Lira, Jr.
Ricardo Lira, Jr. has been accepted to the University of Arizona. He is a resident of the Chess Club, a Student Representative in the Mathematics, Engineering and Science Achievement (MESA) Club, member of Honors Club and Key Club. In addition, he dedicates numerous hours volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club. With his desire to help others combined with his passion for chemistry, Ricardo has chosen to major in biochemistry and pursue a career as a pharmaceutical scientist.
